We provide need-based grants or services as a "safety net" for working families or individuals who experience catastrophic financial events, but may not qualify for existing charitable or governmental assistance programs. Most traditional programs step in after people have spent down their assets and dipped below the poverty line. We don't think that a person should be forced to hit rock bottom before they qualify for assistance. It is much easier to prevent at-risk people from falling into poverty than it is to lift them out.
